www.glen-carbon.il.us. This is the Village of Glen Carbon site. Edwardsville and Glen Carbon occupy the same township (Edwardsville) and having the same school district, we often speak of the two communities as one. A bit smaller, but having a lot of open space, and a closer commute to downtown St. Louis, Glen Carbon has also seen a great deal of growth in the last 15-20 years. And it's mean family income, according to the 2000 census, at $55,813 is actually larger, by a couple of thousand, than Edwardsville. A lot of local information here.

www.mcttrails.org/ - "We know of no community anywhere that has the trails that Edwardsville and Glen Carbon have, penetrating in fact into many parts of Madison County. Practically every abandoned railway right-of-way has been converted in a "Rails to Trails" program providing an incredible network. For both walking and cycling, these are paved and well kept ... and well used, connecting many major community features, well integrated with SIUE for instance."

www.co.madison.il.us Edwardsville is the County Seat of Madison County and as such, is the center of a great deal of political and citizen activity. (Madison County's population is about 275,000….) County government takes place in many Edwardsville venues, mostly downtown, that includes an historic courthouse and a new courthouse, and several other buildings. This downtown governmental center contributes to continued viability of the old downtown area (although there are peripheral commercial centers popping up, too.) The citizens are proud of the two adjacent courthouse buildings….where the architectural styling for the new one beautifully matched the old. This site has mostly data, and a directory; is interesting and impressive in its catalog of public services.
